TABLE TALK #1: EXCELLENCE
When it comes to excellence in education:
What Matters Most to You?
As a parent or family member?
As a member of the learning team at Parkland?
Table facilitators ask table participants to use a reflection sheet to work through the questions alone, (generating single word answers to both questions. (10 mins.)
Then they share with one another and talk about what matters personally and organizationally. (20 mins.) Please fill out this survey with your group.
Then – table notetaker feeds everyone’s words into document to send to George Couros to generate two Wordles – personal and organizational -- that remains on a screen as a backdrop to the day. The cloud gives greater prominence to words that appeared most frequently and acts as a “conscience cloud” for the remainder of the day. (15 mins.)
Using oversized sheets of paper (heavier stock, 22” by 30” approx), table participants are asked to discuss the question and collaborate to “mind map” their dreams of excellence for the division. (30 mins.)
Participants can use coloured pens to draw, write, use metaphors etc. Each table has to collaborate on their canvas and be ready to present to the room (3 minute presentations: 30 mins.)
On the back of the page they describe their imagery on the front. The exercise consists of:
DEPICT – create the future on your canvass DESCRIBE – give words to the concepts that you drew
Canvasses are posted around the room after the groups present their ideas.
Dream Architecture (these will be elements for the education plan)
Obstacles to success
Effectiveness ingredients
(Recorder/ reporter will chose whether they want to capture their notes on the worksheet or on lap top. This person will need to report back from the front of the room.)
